If you're looking to buy or upgrade your flight simulator, then this is certainly a question that must be on your mind as you read these lines.
There are plenty of simulator flight games out there in the market, if you know what to look for in simulator flying games, then you will not squander your money in a crappy flight sim.
But, how to recognize the truly good from the mediocre?. Well, based on my experience, look for the following features:
1. Dynamic world living with moving aircraft, animals, vehicles at airports, vehicles on the road, Air traffic and many more. This will give you a more real immersion into the game.
2. Enables you to fly missions that are programmed and ready to go; Airline pilot missions, stunt flying missions, tutorials,etc... This feature is especially useful for those days when you feel like taking on a challenge.
3. Collaborative playing through the Internet or through a LAN network. so that you can meet your friends online for some formation flying, or group aerobatics (my personal favorites) or even dog-fighting.
4. Customization: The ability to create your own scenarios, missions and/or even your own aircraft is VERY important. The ability to create YOUR own flying experience just the way YOU like it, is priceless.
5. Large flyable aircraft library: this is a no-brainer, the higher the number of available aircraft of different types the better (prop planes, jets, choppers, gliders, etc.).
6. Tutorials: Nothing improves your flying skills like this feature. The best simulators should include video tutorials that take you step by step through each lesson, from the very easy: taxiing and taking off in a single piston engine trainer up to making performing G-busting aerobatics.
7. Add-ons: these are the updates needed to keep on improving your computer game. For the best flight sims, this is provided for. Some vendors will even allow you download add-ons and online support for free.
